To make the system use the simulator rather than the real antenna,

>
>

  • start a cleo antenna screen
  • Ask the operator to provide you permissions on the antenna (only if YGOR_TELESCOPE is /home/gbt); On the simulator simply add an entry for your login and host in the file /home/sim/etc/config/securedb.txt
  • Press the button labelled "Control." A second screen should appear.
  • On the lower righthand region, set the "Oper. Mode" to "GetControl", and select from top menubar: Managers->Antenna->Prepare
  • Wait until the status returns to ready. Verify the CCU and SCU control fields on the monitor screen read "NRAO."
  • On the lower righthand region, set the "Oper. Mode" to "DoScan"
  • On the 'Pointing' tab, select pointing coefficients to match the optics setup. (e.g. Default_DC for Gregorian; Default_PrimeFocus for prime focus)
  • On the 'Drives' tab, select Az,El and the axes which match the mode (e.g. in Gregorian mode enable Y1,Y2,Y3,X1,X2,Z1)
  • Press Update
  • Select from top menubar: Managers->Antenna->Prepare
  • Drives should enable, and the antenna should be ready for use.

Cross Environment Setups:

I'm running the real telescope, but want to use the simulated antenna:

The simulated antenna runs on muacu; the real one runs on virgo. If you are changing versions as part of your tests or are paranoid about what M&C version the simulated antenna is running,

$ su - monctrl
$ ssh muacu
$ TaskMaster muacu systemstop
$ TaskMaster muacu systemstart

Problem

How do I start the GBT Antenna Manager simulator?

Solution

To make the system use the simulator rather than the real antenna,

$ su - monctrl
$ cd /home/gbt/bin
$ ./setAntennaMode simulator

The simulated antenna runs on muacu; the real one runs on virgo. If you are changing versions as part of your tests or are paranoid about what M&C version the simulated antenna is running,

$ su - monctrl
$ ssh muacu
$ TaskMaster muacu systemstop
$ TaskMaster muacu systemstart /home/gbt/etc/config/muacuProc.conf

To make the system use the real antenna rather than the simulator,

$ su - monctrl
$ cd /home/gbt/bin
$ ./setAntennaMode real
