GBT Astronomy for August/September 2007

Schedules

  • The August and September schedules have been made up on the assumption that track work is finished August 30 and re-characterization begins August 30.
  • The period August 30 to September 28 has been scheduled dynamically with Track Checkout as high frequency and some GBT07B projects as backup
    • except the project GBT07B-002 which involves Arecibo Radar (note as of Aug 9 it looks as if Arecibo may not be ready - waiting to hear from PI)
    • All observers scheduled or affected by the change in the track schedule have been notified by email.
    • Additional possibilities for changes in schedule are listed below.

Astronomy for Track Work and Transition

  • The period Aug 13 - Aug 24 is labeled as General tests while PF1 is in for repairs
    • 7B12 will not be observed
    • Possibly start GBT07A-060 (they could get about 1/4 time during this period!)
  • The period Aug 24 - 30 (beginning of re-characterization)
    • If track work finishes early there are two experiments which would be beneficial to run in place of 7B12
      • 7B10 is pulsar search at S band (only 10h)
      • 7B11 is pulsar search at 340 MHz (only 10h) - a little time has been scheduled in Sep but not enough (and of course it is possible they would not get any)
    • Observers for 7B10 and 7B11 have NOT been contacted about this possibility

Astronomy Track Re-Characterization Period

  • Low frequency backup time
    • There is still a significant amount of time unfilled (especially around 12 LST
    • Schedule in the period Sep 5 - 13 is dependent on 7B2 and Arecibo radar
    • The astronomy projects are generally scheduled for 2-3 times their allotted amounts
    • It would be advantages to get a minimum amount
      • 6B37 (T. Minter) - 5 slots/days
      • GBT07A-060 - total of ~ 50 hours (would include any from August as well)
  • High Frequency
    • Although no projects have been scheduled for September it would be desirable to schedule the following (if possible)
      • GBT07B-026 needs only 6 hours at Ku/S (mostly Ku)
      • No contact with PI has been made
    • If high frequency projects are needed the following are possibilities
      • 7A51, 7A34, 7B23
      • No contact with PI has been made
