The listening post system is used to monitor sounds from various locations on the GBT. Unusual sounds can infer equipment malfunctions thus warning the operator of potential problems. The system consists of a monitoring console and speaker (located near the operator in the control room) and microphone sensors positioned at key telescope locations.

1 Select a location to monitor by toggling its switch to the down (ON) position. Multiple locations may be monitored at the same time, however this may mask some sounds. 
2 Adjust the speaker volume as necessary.
3 If using headphones, insert their plug into the labeled jack and adjust the volume as needed.
