At the VxWorks prompt, type: reboot.vws (runs a VxWorks script to kill a few real-time tasks and cleanly close the real-time logs). It then completes a reboot. Note: It is also possible to run this command script from the "shell" terminal at the GB-SRBS equipment trailer. |

- After reboot, the station computer will automatically reload the VxWorks operating system kernel from the real time computer internal hard drive. After the kernel is loaded, the station computer will re-connect to the Green Bank site Ethernet.
- The tracking station software is automatically re-started from a copy of the software kept on the station computer hard drive.

To resume tracking, the latest DISPATCH command file must
be revised to remove commands whose time has passed. The previous
command file should be copied to a file with the same name, but
updated revision code. The revised command file should be started
via the DISPATCH SCREEN. An example of a command name change would be
coping 05NOV22.cmd to 05NOV22a.cmd and restarting the command file.

TELESCOPE OPERATIONS
REBOOTING DEIMOS
Deimos is the computer that hosts and runs the software program used to carry out the 43 Meter MIT-LL observations. It's located in the computer equipment rack at the 43 Meter Control Room.
The 43 Meter station computer, deimos, must occasionally be rebooted in response to software system crashes or other unusual circumstances. There are 3 different ways to reboot the real-time computer. These methods are described below, in order of preference.
| STEP | ACTION |
| NOTE | From PCs or Unix/Linux workstations on the Green Bank site, it is possible to remotely log into the station computer, phobos. Use either step 1 or 2 below. |
| 1 | From a Unix/Linux work station, at the prompt type: rlogin deimos |
| 2 | From a PC, it is possible to log on to phobos using telnet. At the DOS prompt, type: C: telnet deimos |
| 3 | If deimos is functioning properly it will respond with the VxWorks prompt ->. |
| STEP | ACTION |
| 1 | From Unix/Linux workstations, it is possible to run remote screens (rscreen) and use the DISPATCH SCREEN to reboot deimos. From the Unix prompt type: rscreen deimos (starts the remote screens display) |
| 2 | Select DISPATCH COMMANDS |
| 3 | Select MANUAL mode and run the command file: reboot.cmd (after a short time the system will reboot.) |
| STEP | ACTION |
| 1 | The single board VME computer has a red re-boot button on the front of the board. The single board computer is on the left most card in the VME rack at the equipment trailer. To reset the single board, press and hold the reset button for 1 second. The station computer red fail light will illuminate for approximately 5 seconds, after which time the computer will reboot. |
- After reboot, the station computer will automatically reload the VxWorks operating system kernel from the real time
computer internal hard drive.
New station computer software may also be read from the site Ethernet by
updating the automatic startup script:
startDeimos.vws
To modify startDeimos.vws, the file must be copied from
deimos
- cp /hd0/bin/startDeimos.vws /mlln/startDeimos.vws
- edit startDeimos.vws
- cp /mlln/startDeimos.vws /hd0/bin/startDeimos.vws
- reboot deimos
