Applying the QD corrections shrinks the FWHM to 4.8 pixels or so:
So quantitatively, the FWHM has been reduced by 10%. Below is a qualitative comparison of the scan before QD correction (left) and afterwards (right). Qualitatively, it definitely looks like the QD improved the scan.

TPAR16 is significantly windier than TPAR18. I am still trying to get a proper calibration done, but I have been able to get some results using the focus maps made of Mars. It looks as if QD corrections on windy days make for serious improvements, such that it could tip the balance from bad data to useful data:

Paul doing this again with experience from various QD modelling using scan 60, as above I used IRAF to get a more accurate and more sensible baseline for comparison. FWHM=5.313 Pixels. Radial profile is below:

| < < | Table of results for Gaussian fitting the above images. Could not fit images in IRAF (it balked at the FITS files that the GIMP produced), so used a Gaussian fitting routine off the internet for matlab to generate this data. Results for the windy data may be unreliable due to less gaussian image shapes. Sigmas are in units of pixels in the PNG image. The clear winner for the no wind case is X=+1, Z=+1 with no cross term. |

| > > | Following are maps of 3c279 made with MUSTANG under clear, calm conditions. The first map shows the rwa map (no Quadrant Detector pointing corrections attempted). The next 8 show applying the QD corrections in different permutations (relating the QD X and Z channels to elevation and cross-elevation) and with different signs. By default I apply QD_X to elevation and QD_Z to cross-elevation; "cross terms" denotes the opposite association. |
