Beta Release

When the beta version of a software product is released, this begins a beta period in which comments and involvement from a target user audience are collected and reviewed. The intent is to leverage the knowledge of several experts to fine-tune a software product before it is available to the general community. The beta release indicates that:

A new experimental software tool or utility is now available for test use ONLY.
It has been released for the express purpose of wider internal review, and is not currently a production capability available to visiting observers. There will be no warranty or maintenance provided until after the capability is released into the production environment.
During a beta period, users are encouraged to log their comments and requests on the wiki. These items will be evaluated by the GBT Project Planning Committee who will determine when and how the requests are scheduled to be worked.
The purpose of the beta period is to launch the discussions that will allow the GBT Project Planning Committee to identify what other enhancements are necessary before this capability can be offered to visitors.
