GFM Troubleshooting

Problem: My scan list is updating, but GFM is not processing the scans.

Solution: Close your GFM session. Restart Grail. Restart a new GFM session.

Problem: I typed gfm at the command line, and nothing happened. It just gave me a fresh command line prompt.

Solution: First, check to see if you have a .sparrow file in your home directory (if you do, it should be world-readable). If you have one, examine it to make sure that it follows the default .sparrow file located at /home/sparrow/release/sparrow.conf. If everything appears correct, you may be trying to access a plugin that is not available. If this is the case, remove the unavailable plugin from your [Plugins] group and the application will launch properly.

Problem: Not all of the plugins I expect to see are showing up. Why?

Solution: You may be trying to access a plugin that is not yet available for general use. Remove it from your .sparrow file (if you have one).

Problem: I was looking at data from my four scans in a PEAK. I clicked on one of the scans in the group, and got an enlarged version of the plot. But then, I clicked on the first scan number in the group, and my original four scans did not plot. How can I revert to the view where I see all four scans in the peak plotted?

Solution: From the View menu, click on Display All Plots. All of the plots will appear on your screen.

Problem: gfm is running really slow for me. Can I get it to speed up?

Solution: From the machine you are using, type ps -ef to see what other processes are active, or top to see what processes are getting the bulk of the cpu. If you see several items competing for resources, you can expect that your gfm will be performing more slowly. The only solution at present is to switch to another machine that has fewer processes for which system resources are in high demand.

Problem: gfm is not fitting peaks or focuses properly. What do I do?

Solution: There may be a problem with the antenna FITS file. Call an SDD member to examine the problem.
