Problem

Solution

• reduce az rates when it is getting cold,
• restore az rates when it gets warmer,
• reduce el rates when motors are disabled,
• restore el rates when motors are repaired

The same script also can be used to switch between 'real' and 'simulated' antenna for testing. (A test mode not discussed here.)

Reducing AZ Rate Due to Cold Weather

• Disable the antenna axes
• open a terminal window
• become monctrl:
  • su - monctrl
• setup environment:
  • source /home/gbt/gbt.bash
• Run the command:
  • /home/gbt/bin/setAntennaMode cold

Restoring AZ Rates to Full (Warm Weather)

• Disable the antenna axes
• open a terminal window
• become monctrl:
  • su - monctrl
• setup environment:
  • source /home/gbt/gbt.bash
• Run the command:
  • /home/gbt/bin/setAntennaMode warm

Reducing EL Rate Due to Disabled Motors

• Disable the antenna axes
• open a terminal window
• become monctrl:
  • su - monctrl
• setup environment:
  • source /home/gbt/gbt.bash
• Run the command:
  • /home/gbt/bin/setAntennaMode el_at_halfrate

Restoring EL Rate to Full

• Disable the antenna axes
• open a terminal window
• become monctrl:
  • su - monctrl
• setup environment:
  • source /home/gbt/gbt.bash
• Run the command:
  • /home/gbt/bin/setAntennaMode el_at_fullrate

In each case the script will ask for confirmation that axes are disabled. When prompted type yes, and the script will perform a systemstop and a systemstart on prima to restart the antenna processes. This is required to activate the changes.
