Microwave Electronics Status -- Steve

Operations

• PF1 receiver installed and checked out.
• X-band:Installation of HR-10 absorber inside the 50K radiation shield significantly improved baselines performance.

Ka Development

• Cooling Dewar in preparations for Andy Harris' visit next week.
• Plans are in place for long term stability tests with the inputs to the first hybrid terminated.
• Possiblility of putting absorber in the dewar and repeat the tests if time allows.
• Fabrication of the E-plane bends completed and are being cleaned for plating.

Digital Electronics Status -- Randy

Servo Systems Status -- John and Tim

Operations, Problem Summary

Replaced 3 limit switches on the Prime Focus Mechanisms.

Replaced Prime Focus Polarization Motor (Sticking Brake) Called the factory for an RMA number to get it repaired.

Finished wiring and testing Prime Focus Mechanisms Thursday AM.

Reliance Electric to send us a summary of their inspections on the Az/El motors sometime next week.

Problem reported Thursday (Late PM) on moving in elevation. I analyzed the data and it appears that either tach 7 and/or tach 8 are bad. Ops to check out Friday.

Development

Coop student arrived. Gave her info to learn about the PLC upgrade. She will help test hardware over the next few weeks.

• Engineering
  • Servo interlock upgrade continues.
• Astronomy
  • After more meetings between Joe, Kim and Todd, we have finally converged on the new format and implementation for PFM5. A double-blind test (from refracted coordinates to mount coordinates) will be performed once the new code is ready.

Pulsar Related -- Scott

MIT/LL 43m Project -- Glen

• MIT/LL sent an engineer to repair one of 4 IF paths in the trailer. Completed repair tuesday morning.
• Spacecraft tracking on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
• Phil Erickson, from Haystack, ran bistatic radar tests on Wednesday.
  • Used the 400 MHz radar transmitter at Haystack to illuminate the ionosphere.
• MIT/LL is considering a 12.5 GHz application for the 43m.
