Schedule - 114[2335]
Completed - 537[6539]
* All but completed queue applies to GBT only proposals
Current backlog of Reg & RRS proposals [hours prior to 08A*] = 1126
[2005:58(5), 2006:194(10), 2007:874(43)]
Backlog includes 73 hrs of monitoring projects
262 hrs of vlbi projects
Total time to discharge [hours] = 5120
Includes 236 hours++ of monitoring (not Large or Spec) after trimester 08A
2541 hours of Regular & RRS proposals
2231 hours of Large proposals
348 hours of VLBI proposals
* Includes projects that are on hold for trimester 08A
++ Time is counted in other break down as well. 08A
Over the last two weeks we supported 29 projects in 57 observing sessions, including 7 VLB runs. The telescope was also scheduled ofr 3 hrs of receiver checkouts, 18 hrs of PTCS tests, and 18 hrs of maintenance. Lost time was moderate (13.5 hrs or 4.2%) and were due to a very diverse set of issues.
- Winds (4 instances) - 3.1 hrs
- Observer script errors (5 instances) - 2.5 hrs
- CGSR problems - 2.5 hrs
- HVAC Control Room (3 instances) - 1.4 hrs
- HVAC Receiver Room - 0.9 hrs
- Ka-band MCB/Local switch in wrong position - 0.9 hrs
- Observer No-show - 0.7 hrs
- VLBI Mark 5 reboot - 0.4 hrs
- Astrid (3 instances) - 0.4 hrs
- Auto Peak (2 instances) - 0.2 hrs
- Az Transducer - 0.2 hrs
- Spectrometer (2 instances) - 0.2 hrs
- Others (Operator errors, Spectral processor) - 0.2 hrs
In all, 31 problems reported. We've been discussing the cause of many of the observing script errors. It's not clear from the operator logs whether the CGSR problems actually stopped the observations or whether the observers where using a second backend at the time. It's odd that we add two sets of unrelated HVAC problems since we usually don't have any. The Ka-band problem was probably due to someone accidentally hitting the local control switch on the receiver box when Ku was being installed. The rate at which observers do not show up remains about 1 incident per month. When observing near the zenith, AutoPeak? is not cognizant that a source may be 180 deg away in Azimuth.
No news.
GBT Telescope Operations -- Bob
Nothing extraordinary this week.
- PF1 installed on Thursday
There were no significant events to report the past two weeks.
RFI Group Operations -- Carla
- MIT/LL feed removed and sent to the shop; Thanks Preston, Mechanics, Pete and Shop
- Progress is good on MIT/LL refrigerator and door work. Thanks to Bob and Kenny
- Feed mounted on test range and pattern work is going well. Thanks Gary, Jonah, Steve
- MIT/LL will run calibration tests in 43m Control room Friday, Saturday
- Plan is to install feed on Monday Morning
- Test pointing and tracking the remainder of the week
- Rohit and Rich B. are designing a test of their feed on the 43m. Thanks to Dennis and shop for help
MUSTANG -- Brian
- Sequencing of remaining MUSTANG development tasks
PTCS program -- Marty (Todd)
- Servo
- Servo replacement spec review completed
- Preliminary servo replacement architecture under development
- Proof-of-concept for MATLAB to C++ code conversion
- Servo test bed stages defined
- Pointing
- Standard azimuth track map obtained on Tuesday morning. Results are reasonably consistent with prior runs. Further analysis of nearly-contemporaneous stationary inclinometer readings is underway in order to explore the remaining discrepancies in tilt-related pointing terms.
- OOF Holography
- New version of source code (including Mustang processing) received from Bojan. Compilation underway.
- Traditional holography and surface
- Holography system being readied for lab tests next week.
- Project Note 61 released on the wiki, describing measurements of the resilience of panel setting obtained in 2006.
CICADA program -- John
GUPPi... Thanks to much help from a long list of characters including: Scott Ransom, Paul Demorest, Ron DuPlain?, Glen Langston, John Ford, Randy McCullough?, Jason Ray, and Patrick Brandt we were able to achieve "First Light" with GUPPi at around 4:30 AM Thursday morning (17-APR-08) while observing PSR_1824-2452A. We've come a long way; but we still have a long road ahead in turning GUPPi into a common user instrument. Our next goal is to explore and implement coherent de-dispersion and period folding by late this summer. Following this, we intend to enlist the help of the Software Division to turn GUPPi into its final Common User form (with a schedule subject to personnel availability).
- The Zpectrometer was removed from the telescope on April 2.
- From the teleconference this week a target date of August 1 is set for earliest single pixel telescope commissioning.
- All EM parts nearly ready for testing.
- Progress on single pixel dewar construction continues.
- S shaped output waveguide constructed and tested.
- GBT 08B Proposals Approved (excludes HSA, VLBI)
- Total Group A hours: 882 (#29)
- Total Group B hours: 193 (#5)
- Total High Freq (>=C) hours: 372
- Total Low Freq hours: 702
