Proposal Checkouts #[hrs]*
=========================
Awaiting checkout - 0[0]
Active checkout - 0[0]
On Hold - 0[0]
Schedule - 114[1654]
Completed - 537[6502]
* All but completed queue applies to GBT only proposals
Current backlog of Reg & RRS proposals [hours prior to 08B*] = 1066
[2005:63(5), 2006:163(6), 2007:485(29), 2008:355(28)]
Backlog includes 105 hrs of monitoring projects
198 hrs of vlbi projects
Total time to discharge [hours] = 3837
Includes 272 hours++ of monitoring (not Large or Spec) after trimester 08B
1633 hours of Regular & RRS proposals
1996 hours of Large proposals
208 hours of VLBI proposals
* Includes projects that are on hold for trimester 08B
++ Time is counted in other break down as well. 08B
We supported 22 projects in 28 observing sessions, which is just a bit higher than normal. We had 2 VLB runs plus our first GLAST observing project. The telescope was also scheduled for 42 hrs of maintenance and 2 hrs of PTCS tests. Lost time was moderate (4.3 hrs or 3.4%) and was dominated by a single issue:
- Spectrometer setup/Human - 1.9 hrs
- Spectral Processor (4 instances) - 1.1 hrs
- Astrid/GFM (2 instances) - 0.4 hrs
- RFI (2 instances) - 0.4 hrs
- PF Boom servo - 0.3 hrs
- Operator error (Telescope Key) - 0.1 hrs
The Spectrometer/Human error came about when the Spectrometer failed to set itself up properly and neither the operator or observer noticed the problem for almost 2 hrs. Our plans are to send to the operators examples of what to look for and the appropriate fix (issuing Spectrometer reset parameters).
GBT Telescope Operations -- Bob
Painting continues at a good pace. We've spent a little less than 50% of our manpower budget here at the halfway mark, but put on 2/3's of the paint we had planned for the whole summer.
We will begin the work for installing fire protection systems on the GBT next week, with the contractor planning to come July 28.
Nothing to report
- When Todd reported that the Quadrant Detector had begun "dropping out", Jason and J.D. discovered a faulty overtemp bimetallic switch which was opening intermittently. As a temporary fix, they jumpered the switch out Monday; which halted the drop-outs. Our plans are to find and install a suitable replacement in the near future.
- J.D. finished construction of a new, smaller, and lighter box to be used on the GBT for actuator testing, LVDT calibration, etc.
- Using the new test/calibration box, our summer hires spent part of their time calibrating LVDTs they had replaced previously.
- Our summer hires spent the balance of their time inspecting and repairing previously spliced actuator cables where necessary.
RFI Group Operations -- Carla
- Operational Support:
- Added new sampler2logs to TaskMaster on gbtdata for Rcvr1_2
- Responded to report of bogus plotting from LogView. Turns out the autoscaler was just giving a funky scale factor for the y-axis; the plot was correct.
- Lab Spectrometer repair
- PlanOfRecordC52008
MUSTANG -- Brian
- UPenn/NIST/NRAO teleconference meeting discussing data analysis, new array status, and manager development.
PTCS program -- Marty
- Servo
- PLC/SCU testing complete. Team will test all spare boards over next couple weeks before cutting over to PLC for operation.
- Design for boards for servo resonance corrections to be complete this week.
- Surface
- Scatter plots of the inferred surface corrections from the 10/2003 vs. the 4/2004 traditional holography data show a promising linear correlation (C=0.37). Correlation remains after removing the large scale structure (in the form of the first 21 Zernike terms). A new actuator zeros file is being prepared for a future Q-band efficiency test.
- Observed satellite G-28 beacon at 11.702 GHz with the Ku receiver. Continuum cross-scans found the TLE to be in error by ~40 arcsec in elevation and ~20 arcsec in cross-elevation, i.e. about the level expected. We plan to measure the power levels of beacons on other satellites early next week (G-18, StarOneC1, etc).
- Determined that we need to replace the first LO (DRO) in the holography receivers with a more stable device. Presently looking at the alternatives, including compact format, narrow-band synthesizers.
- Mustang OOF data analysis techniques continue to progress.
CICADA program -- John
- Ripple seen by A. Harris. and GBT Spectrometer possibly traced to bad attenuator.
- The RRI instrument will not be ready to test this August; the test time request has been withdrawn. New schedule to be determined. (Marty)
