Proposal Checkouts #[hrs]*
=========================
Awaiting checkout - 0[0]
Active checkout - 0[0]
On Hold - 0[0]
Schedule - 114[1726]
Completed - 537[6508]
* All but completed queue applies to GBT only proposals
Current backlog of Reg & RRS proposals [hours prior to 08B*] = 1220
[2005:68(5), 2006:163(6), 2007:583(32), 2008:407(30)]
Backlog includes 105 hrs of monitoring projects
266 hrs of vlbi projects
Total time to discharge [hours] = 4281
Includes 272 hours++ of monitoring (not Large or Spec) after trimester 08B
1946 hours of Regular & RRS proposals
2043 hours of Large proposals
292 hours of VLBI proposals
* Includes projects that are on hold for trimester 08B
++ Time is counted in other break down as well. 08B
We supported 21 projects in 32 observing sessions (which is more typical than last week's figures), including 4 VLB sessions. The telescope was also scheduled for 32.5 hrs of maintenance, 3 hrs of receiver checkouts, and 4 hrs of calibration tests. Lost time was 5.8 hrs (4.2%), most of which was caused by a single hardware problem:
- Stow pin limit switch (10 instances) - 4.7 hrs
- Winds - 1.0 hrs
- Source Catalog error - 0.1 hrs
Of the 14 operator shifts, only 3 had any lost time failures. There were a few RFI and software "no-lost-time" failures.
GBT Telescope Operations -- Bob
Bob, Tim, et al, have investigated the Elevation servo issue to a 24V system ground. We have not had a recurrence since they corrected it.
We are getting a lot of paint onto the telescope.
- Last week, we had numerous MCB-type problems on the GBT. Last Thursday, Jason spent the entire day troubleshooting and testing MCB boxes; finding two bad Standard Interface Boards which he returned to Socorro for repairs.
- This week, our two new summer hires have repaired a total of 14 actuators under the surface and are both doing a great job! These repairs included a mix of bad motors and/or bad LVDT modules.
- This week, J.D. repaired one LVDT module which reactivated a total of 16 previously disabled actuators (in addition to training the new hires).
- This week, Jason and J.D. repaired two "H Drives" which reactivated two previously disabled actuators (in addition to training the new hires).
- This makes a grand total of 32 actuators reactivated this week.
RFI Group Operations -- Carla
- Operational Support:
- Resolved some minor BOS issues
- Provided software support for investigation into servo issues
- PlanOfRecordC42008
MUSTANG -- Brian
PTCS program -- Marty
- Surface
- Still examining the traditional holography data from 2004. Latest findings:
- As shown here, the Zernike term dialed into the surface for map 1 of 18 Feb 2004 is recovered in Fred's analysis.
- Two of the actuators that were noticeably bad in the Feb and/or Apr 2004 holography data (616530 and 633028) still show up as "red" today on showSurface. We will ask Jason to check on these--they may require birdbath to access.
- In reviewing the old actuator photogrammetry data, we find that the 23 outliers were not brought back to zero by the contractor but were only brought to the maximum allowed error (see this wikipage). We will investigate this further, but if true, we can improve the actuator zero setting for these actuators. Unfortunately, the improvement to the efficiency will not be significant because most of them are near the edge of the dish. However it will make future holography maps cleaner.
CICADA program -- John
- Held a planning meeting to plan the release of GUPPI
- System ready for ad-hoc black-belt testing now
- System will be released for expert users at the end of August. This release will include a working manager, IF Manager, but no configtool or cleo support
- System should be integrated into regular observing by February of next year, including configtool and cleo support
- Next modes developed will be a narrow band mode
- Coherent dedispersion modes will be developed in parallel with the release work.
- Unable to test for the ripple seen by A. Harris due to unavailability of spectrum analyzer. Tests rescheduled for next week.
