Proposal Checkouts #[hrs]*
=========================
Awaiting checkout - 0[0]
Active checkout - 0[0]
On Hold - 0[0]
Schedule - 114[1703]
Completed - 537[6508]
* All but completed queue applies to GBT only proposals
Current backlog of Reg & RRS proposals [hours prior to 08B*] = 1161
[2005:68(5), 2006:163(6), 2007:524(30), 2008:407(30)]
Backlog includes 105 hrs of monitoring projects
222 hrs of vlbi projects
Total time to discharge [hours] = 4120
Includes 272 hours++ of monitoring (not Large or Spec) after trimester 08B
1869 hours of Regular & RRS proposals
2019 hours of Large proposals
232 hours of VLBI proposals
* Includes projects that are on hold for trimester 08B
++ Time is counted in other break down as well. 08B
We supported 21 projects in 32 observing sessions, including 4 VLB sessions. The telescope was also scheduled for 42 hrs of maintenance. Lost time amounted to 4.5 hrs, about 3.6%, and was due to:
- Winds (4 instances) - 1.5 hrs
- Servo/Az Brakes - 1.1 hrs
- Astrid/GFM/Config-Tool (4 instances) - 0.6 hrs
- Servo/Turret (2 instances) - 0.4 hrs
- Servo/PF - 0.4 hrs
- X-Band 'stability' - 0.2 hrs
- Computing - Titania - 0.2 hrs
- User error (Config file) - 0.2 hrs
Roger, Bob S, and Steve W tried to but could not find the he X-band stability problem. Maybe water drops, maybe the weather? Note that for the last two months, servo problems have dominated our lost time, though there appears to be nothing systematic about the problems.
GBT Telescope Operations -- Bob
RFI Group Operations -- Carla
- Some pointing tests at higher frequency, but otherwise normal tracking.
- MIT/LL 0.15 to 1.7 GHz feed should arrive next week and be installed on July 8.
- There are some issues with the feed performance above 1 GHz
MUSTANG -- Brian
- Updated version of manager with cryogenics control loaded on 'Spider' at UPenn
PTCS program -- Marty/Todd
- Pointing model:
- A revised version of PTCS Project Note 53: "The GBT Pointing Model" by K. Constantikes has been released.
- Drafting a companion document to PTCS Project Note 53 describing the techniques used to estimate the model parameters (i.e. in the Matlab scripts described here).
- Surface:
- Evaluation of actuators with large errors in 2004 holography maps, and identification of shim locations on photogrammetry outliers
- There appears to have been at least two eras when shims were installed on many of the actuators on the right edge of the dish.
- Photos collected by Jason and the team so far can be found here.
- Advanced phase unwrapping algorithms have been identified and are being implemented into Fred's holography analysis Mathematica scripts.
- Further research into satellite targets (see this plot of most geostationary satellites visible from Green Bank)
- Two satellites observed on June 12 (Galaxy 4R and Solidaridad 2) are at end-of-life and in increasingly inclined orbits, moving by +/-0.35 and +/-2 degrees respectively. So probably not ideal targets. By comparison, G28 is well-behaved.
- Intelsat targets to survey in upcoming search time:
- Galaxy 26 at elev=43.4
- Galaxy 3C at elev=42.8
- Galaxy 18 (just launched on May 21, 2008!) at elev=27.1
- Peak scans will be attempted this time to judge the accuracy of TLEs and their implementation on GBT
- Upcoming PTCS activities
- Complete SCU/PLC tests
- Rerun ½ power tracks
- as part of servo resonance data point gathering (more logging/additional buffers)
- for Paul's QD model testing
- Holography receiver installation/commissioning
- Investigate peculiarites in accelerometer 4 datastream noted by Kim
CICADA program -- John
- Checked receiver for the ripple seen by A. Harris. More tests scheduled for next week.
- WVU/UCLA magnetometer project conference call 30-Jun. [Marty]
