GBT Support Assignments

Assistance prior to and in Preparation of the observations

Accepted proposals which are scheduled will be assigned a "Friend" or NRAO Contact who is available for consultation prior to the observations (help setting up scripts and give advice on observing strategies). The Friend or NRAO Contact assigned to a particular proposal can usual be found in the Schedule queue.

Assistance at the time of observations

NRAO staff scientists are assigned to support the current observations. They will assist first time observers in the start up of their initial observations and are on call for trouble shooting on going observations when needed. These support assignments are usually different from the proposal's specifically assigned Friend/NRAO Contact. A brief description of their schedule is outlined below and the assignments are listed at the right.

A staff scientists is usually assigned to a block of 3 or 4 days as described below. The week will formally start Saturday at 06:00am and end the following Saturday at 06:00am. The four periods or blocks are nominally defined as

• Weekend Days
  • Saturday through Monday inclusive
  • 06:00 - 18:00 Eastern Time
• Weekend Nights
  • Saturday through Monday inclusive
  • 18:00 - 06:00 Eastern Time
• Weekday Days
  • Tuesday through Friday inclusive
  • 06:00 - 18:00 Eastern Time
• Weekday Nights
  • Tuesday through Friday inclusive
  • 18:00 - 06:00 Eastern Time
