Plan of Dissertations

• It should be possible to upload the POD file separately from the scientific justification

Downloading xml file From Oracle database to GB Directory for new proposals.

• Administrator or manager function (I am not clear on distinction)
• Basic features
  • select a list of proposals (using a check box or some simple text with ranges, etc)
  • select a directory from the client machine (this drive would be mounted on the local machine)
  • proposals would be stored within a subdirectory of (last selected directory) whose name is the official proposal code WITHOUT the forward slash (10 characters long - example GBT07C-032)
  • the xml file is stored within this proposal directory with the name proposal.xml

Proposal Printing From the PST database to GB Directory for new proposals.

• Administrator or manager function (I am not clear on distinction)
• Basic features
  • select a list of proposals (using a check box or some simple text with ranges, etc)
  • print the proposals selected to a local printer on the client machine
  • Allow printing options of (# => most important)
    • 1 - Cover sheet + Scientific Justification + Student Support Application + Plan of Dissertation
    • 2 - Cover Sheet + scientific Justification (#) [must exclude student support and POD]
    • 3 - Cover Sheet
    • 4 - Scientific Justification
    • 5 - Student Support Application (#)
    • 5 - Plan of Dissertation (#)
    • 6 - any combination of 2 through 5

Proposal PDF Downloading From PST database to GB Directory for new proposals.

• *This is only needed if the previous batch proposal printing on a local client is not possible.*
• Administrator or manager function (I am not clear on distinction)
• Basic features
  • select a list of proposals (using a check box or some simple text with ranges, etc)
  • select a directory from the client machine (this drive would be mounted on the local machine)
  • create a single PDF file of the cover page and scientific justification for each proposal or one or more of the options 1 through 6 below
  • store the newly created file within a subdirectory of (last selected directory) whose name is the official proposal code WITHOUT the forward slash (10 characters long)
  • the PDF file(s) is (are) stored within this proposal directory with the name proposal.pdf or as specified below
  • allow PDF options of storing the following possibilities
    • 1 - Cover sheet + Scientific Justification + Student Support Application + Plan of Dissertation (filename - proposalall.pdf)
    • 2 - Cover Sheet + scientific Justification (filename - proposal.pdf)
    • 3 - Cover Sheet (filename - cover.pdf)
    • 4 - Scientific Justification (filename - sj.pdf)
    • 5 - Student Support Application (filename - ssa.pdf)
    • 6 - Plan of Dissertation (filename - pod.pdf)
    • 7 - allow selecting one or more of options 1 through 6
• This feature could very nicely be combined with the downloading the xml

Processing Feedback.

• Apparently there exists a 'processed' flag - I have not seen it and I am uncertain about its significance.
• In the current system, when the xml file is downloaded the order that it is listed in the proposal browse table is changed and can be somewhat confusing
• It would be useful to have the ability to list only proposals which have not yet been printed and the xml file downloaded
  • If both the printing and xml download could be accomplished simultaneously one flag automatically set at the successful completion for each proposal

PST Documentation

• According to the PST documentation color figures are allowed. However the documentation does not mention that proposals will NOT be sent to the referees with these figures printed in color (at least for the GBT). The documentation should be changed to indicate this clearly.
