TELESCOPE OPERATIONS


ANTENNA MOVES TO SUPPORT MAINTENANCE

General

This procedure covers moving the antenna to service position and other movements to support maintenance activities.

Warning

Ensure personal safety through effective lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the antenna is cleared for movement before releasing hydraulic drive brakes.

Moving Antenna to Service Position

STEP ACTION
1 Take manual control by pressing the Halt button on the main console window.
2 Press the Service Position button. The antenna will move to position and set the gear reducer brakes.
3 Press the Idle button. Sets the stow brake and sets the hydraulics to bleed mode.
4 Personnel can now lockout the antenna servo system for maintenance actions as required.

Moving Antenna to Stow Position for Access to Tipping Structure

STEP ACTION
1 Take manual control by pressing the Halt button on the main console window.
2 Press the Stow button. The antenna will move to stow position and set the gear reducer brakes.
3 Press the Idle button. Sets the stow brake and sets the hydraulics to bleed mode.
4 Personnel can now lockout the antenna servo system for maintenance actions as required.

Moving Antenna for Gear Cleaning/Maintenance

STEP ACTION
1 Take manual control by pressing the Halt button on the main console window.
2 On the main console, click on Commanded Position to bring up the control panel for manually moving the antenna.
3 Set rates, release brakes, and command RA and/or DEC moves only as the mechanics direct.
