TELESCOPE OPERATIONS

OPERATOR CHANGEOVER

The actions listed are provided as a guide only. Additional/other items may be discussed depending on the situation and current observing conditions. Also see the Shift Duties Guide for additional details.

OFF-GOING OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Brief shift activities, current observing routine, outages.
Brief location of any personnel on the GBT, 43meter, 45ft, or other locations of importance.
Brief planned or expected maintenance.
Brief planned or expected visitors.
Brief special, temporary, or significant procedural changes since last shift.
Brief latest weather.
Brief any safety issues or special call-out requirements.
Log out of OpsLog and print/review/post shift summary.

ON-COMING OPERATOR UPON ASSUMING SHIFT
Continue scheduled observing or maintenance programs.
Check parameters associated with current observing routine if in progress.
Check status of servo systems / electronics / cryogenics on all telescopes.
Check weather.
Check listening post stations.
Login to OpsLog.
Complete other shift as required.
