TELESCOPE OPERATIONS

GBT PA SYSTEM

General

Radios are used to monitor and assist operations and maintenance activities at the GBT and around site. Their use is governed by FCC regulations. Please use them appropriately at all times.

The PA system can be accessed from any touch tone phone, on site or off.

The PA system via the control room base radio set is no longer available.

PA System Procedures

Accessing PA System via a Phone

STEP ACTION
1 Dial 2195 (PA system answers after 1 ring).
2 After the beep, enter the password (428727 i.e., G-B-T-P-A-S).
NOTE 1 The system will hang up (after a triple beep is heard) if the password is entered wrong or 20 seconds of inactivity have elapsed.
3 After the double beep, record your announcement (15 seconds max at this time).
NOTE 2 If you attempt to record a message longer than 15 seconds, you will hear a triple beep, the system will hang up, when it will broadcast the first 15 seconds of your message.
4 After recording your message, press 7. The system will hang up and play your recording.
NOTE 3 If you fail to press 7 after recording your message, it will play after a 20-30 second delay verses immediately.
