A group of us met last Friday to discuss how to handle support for RFI issues during observations. We'll have additional meeetings in the future to discuss staff responsibilities, strategies and necessary equipment or software tools for handling RFI detection, an RFI database for observers, operators, support staff and others, callout contacts, and other related issues. The goal is to not only know procedures everyone should follow when RFI is detected but to also have a good database of known RFI sources and to have support staff work with observers prior to observations if necessary to avoid known problem areas.

In the meantime, if the observer tells you they are experiencing RFI that is affecting their observations, do what you can to assist in determining the possible source or workaround. If you need further assistance beyond that, call the on-duty support scientist.

As Greg did last night, please provide us with any information you can offer.

Pete

Added 16 Oct:

Ron has spoken to his folks and tells me that indeed if the observer is experiencing RFI and you cannot provide futher support or a workaround, you should contact the On-duty support scientist for further assistance/guidance and let them come in or decide what should be done.
