TELESCOPE OPERATIONS


REBOOTING PROSPERO

Prospero is a Linux server located in the computing server room. While Prospero no longer provides network services used to support GBT observing, there may be a rare time when we are called upon to perform a reboot of it. Any reboots of prospero by operators will ONLY be at the direction of computing division personnel.

Prospero is located in the computer server room.

Open the rack door

Pull the keyboard / monitor out for accessibility

Power on the LCD screen (button on the lower right on back side of screen)

Attempt a login (any login will do)

If you can log in then Prospero is NOT the problem - call computing for help. Try using the "Control, Alternate, Delete" reset by hitting these keys at the same time. [ctrl-alt-del]

Hard reset:

The computer is in the bottom of the rack. The plastic panel has been removed.

On the bottom left hand side of the computer there two depressions with plastic stems showing. The stems normally have buttons connected.

Push the right hand stem (the one towards the center of the computer). This will reboot the computer.
