TELESCOPE OPERATIONS


SCRIPTS USED BY OPERATIONS

General

Scripts are commands used to run processes that can generate an output used by operations or start a logging program. Some, but not all scripts have been listed here. Those listed are simply the most common.

Scripts may be run from any workstation (unix, linux, Windows PC). The Windows PC will require Exceed running.

The character ^ is used below to emphasize spaces between dialog elements.

Procedure for Running a Script

STEP ACTION
1 From a workstation, open an xterm window.
2 Ensure the correct environment variable is sourced (se below). To confirm, enter pwd (/home/gbt/gbt.bash should be displayed. If not, enter: source ^ /home/gbt/gbt.bash ).
3 If the script must be run from a specific directory, change to that directory ( cd ^ path or directory name ).
4 From the prompt, enter the script.

Sourcing Scripts

Script Purpose
source ^ controlRealGBT.bash Ensures real control of the GBT.
source ^ controlSimulator.bash Allows GBT control in simulator or mockup mode.
source ^ /home/gbt/gbt.bash Sources the primary home directory for running the GBT.
source ^ $FTOOLS/finit.sh Accesses the FTools untility for viewing/plotting FITS files.

Scripts for Reference INformation and Logs

Script Purpose
sun Produces a current 24 hour listing of solar positions in az/el coordinates.
wxfits Checks Sampler2log processes for the weather stations.
pstilts Used to check if 50Hz and spare servo samplers are running (for wheel tilts tests).
tilts Used to start the 50Hz and spare servo samplers.
