TELESCOPE OPERATIONS


SHUTDOWN

General

This procedure covers the basic steps for shutting down the 43Meter telescope drives in preparation for stowing at survival position, maintenance, or as directed.

Warning

Ensure personal safety through effective lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the antenna is cleared for movement before releasing hydraulic drive brakes.

Stowing Antenna for Shutdown

STEP ACTION
1 Press the Halt button on the main console window. Skip if you already have manual control.
2 Press the Stow button. The antenna will move to stow position (00 Hour angle/38.54 Degs Dec) then set the gear reducer brakes.
3 Press the Idle button if you need to set the stow brakes. Also sets the hydraulic system to bleed.
NOTE The antenna is now stowed.
4 If observing was in progress, add a log entry using the DISPATCH/TECH menu options of RSCREEN noting the time the shutdown occurred as well as when observing resumed. Note in OpsLog as well.
