TELESCOPE OPERATIONS

TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEMS

Possible Problems

The start-up time has passed and the telescope isn't moving:

  1. Make sure you the CITECT Main Console is set to AUTO
  2. In the rscreen window, go to the ACU 43M screen and set it to MANUAL.
  3. Manually release the brakes by toggling the brake setting to BRAKE OFF. If the schedule is running the antenna should take off once the brakes release. If not, go to step 4.
  4. Go to the DISPATCH screen and run the latest command file for the day.
  5. If none of these things work call Glen. If he is not available call Pete.

Logging Unusual Events:

For logging unusual events i.e. stowing the telescope for weather, late start-up of anything else out of the ordinary, use the TECH screen. Once a day all entries from this screen are emailed to MIT/LL and Glen. You can also review the daily comments already entered.

From the main menu in rscreen, click on DISPATCH. In the DISPATCH menu click on TECH. A suggested format for entering an event (time in UT, your initials, comments) follow:

To bring up a complete copy of the command observing file:

  1. Bring up putty and log into prospero as 140ops.
  2. Type cd /home/ovlbi1/mlln/in
  3. Type ls -lrt to get list of files.
  4. Find the file that you want. Examples: 05DEC20.cmd 05DEC20b.cmd
  5. Type" more 05DEC20.cmd
  6. If you want to print it type: lpr -Ptelops filename
