| 1 | To acquire tapes, contact the VLBA tape librarian at Socorro (vlbatape@aoc.nrao.edu) and request tapes. They are usually shipped via FedEx. Proceed to step 2 when tapes arrive. |
| 2 | Update web based tracking program (http://magnolio.nrao.edu (login: gbvlba)). On the page "Tape Tracking Home Page for GB - Shipping and Receiving", press the Receive a Shipment button. Follow instructions provided. |

| 1 | Clean the recorder's tape path and recorder heads with alcohol using wipes and/or Q-tips. |
| 2 | Mount and thread tape. |
| 3 | Open an xterm window and slogin to vortex as follows: slogin ^ vortex ^ -l ^ gbvlbi |
| 4 | Bring up the RSCREEN package: rs (RSCREEN window will appear) |
| 5 | In RSCREEN window, select the Prepass option (TAPE » PREPASS) . Follow screen directions. |
| 6 | After the tape has re-wound, use tape to secure the loose end then continue to "Testing Tapes for Flange Forcing". |

| 1 | With the tape reel still on the drive after pre-passing, rotate until it the GREEN serial number label is at the top. |
| 2 | Place the one inch aluminum test block between the flanges so that it rests on the tape. |
| 3 | Using the blue 5mil shim, try sliding it between the block and the flange. If it does not or just barely slides between the flange and block, it passes. If it slides in easily, it failed. Prepass failed tapes again and retest. Repeated failures indicate a bad tape. Reject it and send it back to Socorro. |
| 4 | Remove prepassed/tested tape. Store for use or ship to Socorro as applicable. |
