WEATHER SAMPLER LOGS

General

The weather sampler logs need to run all the time. This procedure is used to verify the samplers are running (weather FITS files are being updated) and to restart them if they are stopped. Another indication that the samplers are not running would be the absence of data when inserting the weather info in the Opslog.

Checking Weather Sampler Log Status

STEP ACTION
1 From an xterm window logged in as gbtops enter: wxfits (a listing for each sampler will be displayed)
2 Check the creation date/time for the last file listed for each of the samplers (weather1, weather2, and weather3). They should be within a few minutes of the current time. Those with current times are running fine. Those with old times are not updating. Note those needing to be restarted then proceed to the instructions below.

Restarting Weather Sampler Logs

STEP ACTION
1 Launch the Cleo TaskMaster application then select the vortex tab.
2 Click on the weather sampler that's not updating then click on the Stop button, wait for the process to be shown as stopped, then click on the Start or RunOnce
3 Repeat step 2 for all samplers having problems.
4 Rerun the wxfits command after a short wait to ensure the samplers are updating.

Restarting Weather Sampler Logs (Manual Method)

STEP ACTION
1 From an xterm window enter: su ^ monctrl -l vortex (logs into vortex as monitor control. Follow with current password)
2 TaskMaster ^ gbtdata ^ status (displays status. Note process number(s) for sampler(s) needing a restart)
3 TaskMaster ^ gbtdata ^ stop ^ # (substitute the # for the samplers process number)
4 TaskMaster ^ gbtdata ^ status (verify process stopped for sampler in question)
5 TaskMaster ^ gbtdata ^ start ^ # (restarts sampler. Substitute the # for the samplers process number)
6 TaskMaster ^ gbtdata ^ status (verify process started for sampler in question)
7 Repeat steps 3-6 for restarting additional weather samplers.
NOTE To stop or start several processes at the same time, enter each process number into the TaskMaster command separated by a comma e.g., TaskMaster ^ gbtdata ^ stop ^ #,#,#
8 Rerun the wxfits command after a short wait to ensure the samplers are updating. Log out from monctrl when done.
9 Update OpsLog as necessary.
