• 1. Instruments for dynamic scheduling (Dana)

    • Determine relevant length scales: Surface & beam pattern simulations, applied to Moon scans (run2.ps) (run3b.ps)
    • Sample the simulated beam with various grids to determine required map size to resolve actuators
    • Assess the effect of uncompensated pointing errors
  • b. Practical issues and concerns from past experience (see Ron's summary)
    • Hardware (existing Ku band system)
      • Reference horn -- only had rough knowledge of phase center
      • Sampling time was limited by backend data storage rate (0.2 sec) so maps took too long (dish changed)
    • Software
      • Never worked out the scaling from phase error to surface error
      • Data need to be corrected for phase & amplitude pattern of reference horn
  • c. Other considerations
    • If CW signals are problematic, could rebuild correlator for broadband capability (example spectrum of Telstar5, which was once observed by GBT)
    • If we want to try higher frequency, new satellites have 20GHz downlinks (Galaxy-28 at 89W)
