Martin,

Mark and I have discussed the creation of a cryogenics simulator to aid in the development of the housekeeping software. Such a simulator would be a state machine that would receive commands through the M&C GPIB interface (simulated at a lower level than the manager) and would then set itself to the proper state. There are a few good reasons to implement this:

* It would serve as an excellent vehicle to understanding the operating principles of the Mustang cryogenics system.

* It would expose any deficiencies in the documentation on the cryogenics system

* It would speed up the development of the actual housekeeping software, by limiting the need for spider

* It would facilitate troubleshooting problems with the housekeeping software in the future.

What we need is time allocated to do this. I believe that the time we are talking about is in the range of 40-80 hours to actually develop the simulator. (This does not include time spent understanding the cryogenics system, since that time would have to be spent anyway before any design or implementation of housekeeping system could take place.) The time actually spent on the simulator will hopefully return many dividends during the development and testing of the housekeeping software.

Ray
