1. Direct Observer Support:

• Surveyed the cellular band from 869 MHz to 894 MHz and identified a cellular control channel on 879.87 MHz coming from outside the NRQZ.
• Investigated interference report around 817 MHz for V. Kondratiev and found it to be an OMT resonance, not RFI.
• Received positive feedback from Brian Mason WRT X-band survey assistance.
• Provided RFI information to an observer in the UHF band.

2. NRQZ (Zone 5) Administration: 16AUG07 - 30SEP07

• ERPd Restriction values amended PW 28MAR08

• Standards review in collaboration with H. Liszt and A. Clegg
• Oversaw removal of an illegal transmitter at 462.87 MHz in Marlinton, WV; same system may contain others, will continue to pursue.
• Provided August and September Evers MOA reports

3. WVRAZ:

• Continued monitoring for power line and cable TV RFI. Located and had technician repair several cable TV leaks.
• Waiting to hear from Mike Holstine WRT new legal representation on the Frontier Communications issue.
• The last survey of the local area for wireless access points indicated approximately 40 units in the immediate vicinity. Routine surveys are no longer being conducted.
• Prepared written material for the Guest Information at Rimfire Lodge; helped specify CAT5 cable with our logo to provide in the lodge.

4. On-Site RFI Mitigation (Zones 1-2):

• Anechoic Chamber testing:
  • Compressor Power Controller for 43m scope
  • Electric Door Strike and Electromagnet for Proximity Sensor Entry System
  • 3.6m dish antenna drive motors completed
  • BYU RFI Excision Focal Plane Array LO-IF System

• Employee education:
  • Encouraged Mike to Pursue Orientation Videos, and prepared RFI script for the eventuality that this will happen; this would be great for the RFI and the Safety groups.

5. RFI Policy, Instrumentation, Reporting Mechanism, etc:

• GBT Monitoring Station
  • New GUI for GBT Monitoring Station which adds GBT Az to Az of directional antennas, Courtesy of Rick Fisher. Provided input for publication of EDTN 208 which details this system.
  • Provided input for publication of EDTN 209 concerning the SNR of the GBT RFI Monitoring Station Colinear Dipole antenna channel. Shows that this channel provides a better SNR than the DME signals coming in the sidelobes of the L-band receiver.
• Anechoic Chamber
  • Anritsu Spec An MS2602A (the chamber spec an) was shown to have a drifting LO; Spec an sent off for repair and calibration.
  • Began LabView? Tutorials and requested network PC for use with chamber testing. Would like to get away from using chamber printer as only data output. Would like to generally become good at using LabView? to help automate some T&M functions.
• RFI Database Project
  • Seeking resources to complete web-based data entry forms in TurboGears?.
• Archival RFI Monitoring Options beginning to be articulated.
• New 3.6m dish antenna mount installed to support BYU Focal Plane Array RFI Excision Project.
• Began repair of RFI shielding compromised by the installation of the new heating/cooling unit installed at 40' RFI trailer.
• Working on 3 meter resolution topography data issues.

6. Outreach:

• Provided Guidance to Ipek Altan from Turkey about observatory site selection.
• Povided 2.5 days of site access and guidance for PBS Wired Science Film Crew and gave on-camera interviews.

7. Other:
