Green Bank RFI Management 2007 Progress Summary

1. NRQZ Administration:

Processed 538 requests for coordination at 850 sites for 872 transmission frequencies.
Performed 13 site inspections.
Corrected NRQZ compliance problems with 3 coordinated transmitters.
Provided 10 personal tours to government and industry representatives to promote a spirit of compliance with NRQZ regulations.
Provided 10% of 1 FTE to support a propagation model study in collaboration with Virgina Tech and NSWC
Obtained improved-resolution topography data for WV
Developed NRQZ policy in collaboration with NSF

2. Direct Observer Support:

Responded to
- 25 real-time Observer Reports
- 6 Observer Special Requests (band surveys, etc.)
- 17 Requests for transmitter coordination

3. WVRAZ:

Monitored, recorded, and reported to the FCC illegal usage on 3 frequencies.
Monitored and mitigated local broadband sources continuously 1 week in advance of GBT observations at L band and lower.
Assessed compliance of 4 specific local unlicensed transmitters, and assessed coverage for 1 class of unlicenced transmitter.
Worked with EPO group on 7 seperate initiatives to encourage WVRAZ compliance in the community.

Worked extensively on NRAO's policy WRT WVRAZ issues.

4. On-Site RFI Mitigation (Zones 1-2):

Tested 16 devices for compliance in the Anechoic Chamber.
Provided mitigation designs for 5 projects.
Designed and executed 2 site-specific tests to measure parameters such as shielding effectiveness.
Worked at the planning stage on 5 seperate EPO initiatives to encourage compliance with site RFI regulations.
Gave presentation on GB site RFI policy to GB staff; developed video script to do the same.

5. RFI Infrastructure improvements:

Completed the GBT RFI Monitoring Station
Initiated the RFI Database Project and produced an IDL visualization tool for it
Preliminary work towards producing regular, archived, RFI monitoring
Outfitted new mobile RFI monitoring station
Continual mantenance and improvement of 40' monitoring station
Developed sensible visual comparison of ITU, FCC, and NRQZ limits
Installed new mount for the 3.6m dish antenna to support BYU Focal Plane Array RFI Excision Project

6. Outreach:

Provided tours and/or presentations about RFI for 8 different outreach events.
Responded to 3 requests for technical information from other academic institutions
Provided 2.5 days of site access and guidance for PBS Wired Science Film Crew and gave on-camera interviews
