1. Direct Observer Support:

• Responded to RFI report at Ku band from Tony Remijan; turned out to be a system overload.
• Identified RFI at 1.69 GHz for Larry Morgan; one of the GOES satellites.
• Responded to RFI report at 9528 MHz from Dana Balser; likely military aeronautical radionavigation.
• Responded to RFI report at 9820 MHz from Tony Minter; possible TerraSarX or Cloudsat.
• Responded to RFI report at 401.6 MHz from Peter Illot (JPL/NASA Phoenix Mars lander mission); identified interference as FORTE Satellite downlink. 2LE predictions indicate that coordination probably won't be necessary for the main mission on May 25th.

2. NRQZ (Zone 5) Administration: 1JAN08 - 31MAR08

3. WVRAZ:

• Continued monitoring for power line and cable TV RFI.
• Provided Business Office with addidtional evidence of interference in 2.4 GHz band and input for legal correspondence.

4. On-Site RFI Mitigation (Zones 1-2):

• Anechoic Chamber testing:
  • Converted Chamber from feed test mode back to RFI test mode
  • DCD in RF enclosure (component of Keyless Entry System)
• Completed RFI mitigation work for keyless entry system.
• Completed RFI mitigation work on telephone switch rack in tour center.
• Designed retrofit of old ethernet switch boxes to accommodate new routers; project will be ongoing as Chris replaces old switches.

5. RFI Policy, Instrumentation, Reporting Mechanism, etc:

• GBT Monitoring Station
  • Rick working on infrastructure for Archival monitoring with GBTRFIMS.
• Anechoic Chamber
  • Used PrintCapture to enable graphics file capture instead of printing from the Anritsu MS2602A Spectrum Analyzer; Created anechoic chamber RFI report template in Word. Finally free of the @#$%$! printer!
  • Lab View installation, windows PC and network connection installed at anechoic chamber.
• RFI Data Base Project
  • Lost Software support for the project; software engineer resigned and was not replaced.
  • Re-articulated form flow diagram to integrate limited query capability, and began designing GUI forms.
• Archival Monitoring
  • Ron Maddelena is writing RFI observing scripts and post-processing routines.
  • Created a web page for simple graphical display of archived scans.
• Employee education
  • Provided Human Resources with new employee RFI policy orientation material, and ensured that it was on the checklist of orientation materials.
  • Sent annual reminder about policy to staff and pointed them at RFI Policy for GB Staff presentation materials.
• NSWC tower update: NSWC is in the process of biding a contract to have the tower dissembled, mover to GB and reassembled.
• 40' RFI Monitoring station repairs/ upgrades: Moved +15 VDC power supply from trailer to tower. Purchased new antenna rotator. Had several Miteq amplifiers repaired as well as purchasing 2 Bias Tees and 2 limiters to help protect amplifiers.
• 3 meter resolution topography data update: Contacted WVGIS center about "zeroed" data on the WV/VA boarder that prevents our propagation software from using mixed topography data for paths that include both WV and VA. They are working the problem.
• Softwright TAP software
  • Reviewed modules for software license and modified license/software maintenance.
  • Negotiations with IT department for funds.

6. Outreach:

• Provided a site tour for Jorge Scientific.
• Provided two site tours for SGRS staff
• Provided NRQZ general information teleconference for Ntelos
• Monthly Evers MOA, WV Special User Airspace reports
• Established first communication with FBI technical contact for Apple Orchard/Bucks Elbow mountain emitters
• Established first communication with Langley 1st Fighter Wing Spectrum Manager
• Established first communication with T-Marc HA Spectrum Management, northern NRQZ area
• Attempted to establish first communication with Access Point Communications, HughesNet reseller, VA
• Attempted to establish first communication with KGI Wireless, tower space reseller, WV/VA

7. Other:

• Attended weekly RFI group meetings
• Attended RFI/EPO meetings
• Attended All Hands meeting
• Attended Operations meetings as needed.
• Attended NRAO Spectrum Managers Teleconferences.
• Attended director's meeting; presented yearly summary for 2007.
• Provided input to National Academy of Sciences document "Scientific Use of the Spectrum" at Darrell Emmerson's request.
