0. “Level of expertise” usefulness

• As newbie to particular language.
• Knowledgeable about language, but newbie to group's projects - Sparrow/Ygor/DEAP.
• Knowledgeable / experienced users.

1. Development platforms:

• PHP
• Python
• C++
• SQL
• UML

2. Capabilities:

• Editor
  • Code Completion (IntelliSense) – design time access to attributes, methods
  • Code completion templates - shortcuts to code expansion macros.

• Views / Perspectives
  • View - Particular view of the project (e.g., Navigator, Outline, Debug)
  • Perspective - collection of views useful to a common activity (e.g., Java, PyDev, Debug)

• Source navigation
  • Python
    • Basic "Go to Definition / Declaration" seems to work for Python (not 100% reliable)
    • No list of references or calls
  • C++
    • Basic "Go to Definition / Declaration" FAILS for C++ (expected summer 2007 )

• Project management
  • New project from scratch
  • Import existing code to new Eclipse project
  • CVS integration – check-in, check-out, update, synchronize, diff, tag, version history, etc.

• Compilation / Execution (time, complexity, resources)

• Debugging
  • Color coded code status indicators in left column

• Extensibility
  • The ubiquitous “plug-in” (various levels of maturity - JDT, PyDev, CDT)
  • Written in what else - Java! SWT for the GUI elements

• Nuisances, annoyances, outright hindrances
