Joe Brandt

Personal Goals:

• I will attend at least one software-specific conference to keep my skills current.
• I will pursue the application of graphics and cell processors to accelerate pulsar searches.

Group Goals:

• I will hold several lunch time talks on computer architecture, software development topics, and real-time systems.

Project Goals:

• I will work with the scientific staff to research a replacement for the trajectory preprocessor algorithms. We will develop at least one MR or memo this year describing insights or results.
• I will work to improve the servo system response and tracking performance.
• I will implement the next generation pointing correction model when available.
• I will work to implement the Penn array receiver system into the GBT for production use.
• I will work to implement the FPGA-based advanced digital backend into the GBT system.

Mark Clark

Personal Goals:

• Continue the course of study of Python I have started since returning from PyCon, of which the goal is to take full advantage of the capabilities of the language in my coding, i.e., become more “Pythonic.”
• I very much would like to attend PyCon again.

Group Goals:

• Lead a series of lunch topics on techniques used in programming in Python, i.e., attempt to impart what I am learning from my readings.
• Provide a good introduce of bazaar to the group so we can realistically evaluate its potential for our projects.

Project Goals:

• Continuing work in dynamic scheduling especially those portions that deal with the web pages that will need to be more interactive.

Ray Creager

Personal Goals:

• Continue my education, including a class on database technology, one of my current weak points.

Group Goal:

• Design and implement a solution to a critical software CM&E item, backend data streaming, while working on the Penn Array software.

Project Goals:

• Lead the effort in replacing the existing Penn Array software with common user mode software that is reliable and consistent with the GBT M&C system.
• Integrate the FPGA-based Pulsar Backend into the GBT M&C system.
• Finish and deploy the Business Office System within the project timeline.

Bob Garwood

Personal Goals:

• Finish analyzing the GBT Orion survey data and work with collaborators on submitting a paper for publication.

Group Goals:

• Participate in at least one e2e short-term initiative.

Project Goals:

• Evaluate and document GBT data handling status & future options.
• Lead the effort to enhance the imaging options for GBT users. This includes making it easier to get calibrated data into existing imaging systems (e.g. AIPS and CASA and existing IDL gridding/imaging tools) from both dish and GBTIDL and also working with CASA and IDL to explore single dish imaging options not available elsewhere.
• Identify and evaluate pathways for exchanges between IDL and other languages, e.g. C and Python.

Ron Grider

Personal Goals:

• Improve Python development skills, e.g. familiarize myself with the SciPy.
• Attend a software-related conference in 2007.
• Add traditional project management techniques/tools to my skill set by participating in a project management training course.

Group Goals:

• Participate in the testing and deployment of a GBT software release.
• Provide operational support (added to the callout list for at least GFM).
• Present at least two SDD lunch presentations (one on model fitting per PTCS Pointing Model)
• Improve my Monitor and Control system knowledge & development skills, e.g. develop or significantly modify device manager software.

Project Goals:

• Learn the mathematical and statistical bases of the PTCS Pointing and Focus model, to provide more intelligent software support for when GB takes on direct maintenance of that model from K. Constantikes.
• Revive and upgrade both traditional and out-of-focus holography software, with respect to monitor and control and data analysis.
• Provide software support to PTCS as required.

Paul Marganian

Personal Goals:

• Expand my knowledge and familiarity with Astronomical concepts (e.g. derivation of values in SDFITS/GBTIDL).
• I will add traditional project management techniques/tools to my skill set by participating in a project management training course. Furthermore, the course will aid me in determining my level of desire to become a project manager for a future Green Bank project.

Project Goals:

• Assist in the development of Dynamic Scheduling Software, particularly using TurboGears to create Web 2.0 components for the system.
• Assist in the integration of the Mustang bolometer array into the GBT software system as a PI instrument.
• Finish and deploy the Business Office System within the project timeline.

Group Goals:

• Organize and lead a workshop to discuss TurboGears.

Mike McCarty

Personal Goals:

• Learn about the GBT Monitor and Control software architecture by participating in the KA Band receiver upgrade and integrating the changes back into the GBT M&C software.

Project Goals:

• Finish and deploy the Business Office System within the project time line.
• Help Carl Bigneil create a set of requirements for the PST administrative interface.
• Assist in the development of Dynamic Scheduling Software.

Group Goals:

• Utilize the full potential of TurboGears to provide a superior user experience in web applications and educate the group on these advanced TurboGears features.

Melinda Mello

Personal Goals:

• Provide effective mentoring to the SDD 2007 summer student.

Group Goals:

• Learn more web technologies and apply the knowledge to the dynamic scheduling software system.
• Lead at least one SDD lunch talk.

Project Goals:

• Lead the effort in replacing the existing Penn Array software with common user mode software that is reliable and consistent with the GBT M&C system.

Amy Shelton

Personal Goals:

• Expand my software engineering skill set by developing at least one product using a web-based framework.

Group Goals:

• Participate in the development of a proposal for an expanded NRAO REU program which would include computer science majors.
• Promote good project management practices for Green Bank development projects by taking a leading role in conducting project management education as well as evolving written project management materials.

Project Goals:

• Oversee the deployment of the Business Office System for Green Bank and Socorro and transition the project into its maintenance phase.
• Develop a clear plan forward for GBT data reduction which includes a realistic timeline and development schedule.
