1. Introduction

Due to the hardware changes in the Ka receiver taking place inthe summer of 2007, the angle between the receivers is changing. We wish to document this fact by adding a comment in the Ka receiver's FITS.

2. Background

The Ka Rx is undergoing a major hardware change, documented at http://wiki.gb.nrao.edu/bin/view/Projects/KaBandReceiver. The receiver is likely to be modified more in the future, but for the interim we need to make sure the change in polarization is noted in the receiver's FITS file.

3. Requirements

There should be no overall change in the fits files except for this comment. This is explicitly an interim solution.

4. Design

The ka fits file, being documented at http://wiki.gb.nrao.edu/bin/view/Projects/KaRxFitsSpec, will have an additional line with the comment: Feed one is linearly polarized at 45 degrees from constant elevation, measured clockwise as seen from the LNA through the feed, Feed 2 is linearly polarized perpendicular to, and at the same elevation as, feed one.

This change will be implemented when the Ka receiver is changed. If the change is removed, and the receiver reverts to its previous configuration, this line will be removed from the fits file. Ideally a comment about circular polarization would be put in, but that is beyond the scope of this MR.

6. Deployment Checklist

This change will be implemented when the Ka receiver is changed. This change will be part of a normal release or patched in as necessary; dependent on hardware schedules.

7. Test Plan

7.1 Internal Testing

We will simulate taking data with the new Ka Rx and insure the new lines is there.

7.2 Sponsor Testing

We will take data with the new Ka Rx and insure the new lines is there.

7.3 Integration/Regression Tests

Take data with the new Ka Rx and insure the new lines is there.
