1. Introduction

We plan to install a humidity/temperature instrument at Weather 1, giving us full redundancy with Weather 2. Jason Ray has the instruments in hand, and will supervise the installation.

Advantages: Complete redundancy for refraction corrections and weather conditions. It allows us to take WT2 down for calibration or repair without impacting high-frequency observations.

Currently there are no spare fibers to WT2; installation of a six-fiber cable will allow the radio repeater installation as originally planned plus provide spare fibers, but the station will be out of service for a couple of days to do so. Work on WT2's fibers won't start until the after the WT1 upgrade.

This MR specifies the software changes necessary to enable the Weather1 Manager to provide humidity and temperature information. This MR complements the work being done in ModificationRequest4C306.

2. Requirements

The Weather1 Manager will need to read the humidity and temperature. (Note wind and pressure instruments are already there.)

Details:

A Rotronic Humidity/Temperature sensor will be installed on WT1. This sensor has two linear voltage outputs that will be connected to two analog channels of the standard interface board. The channels are as follows:

     Temperature - Relative Address 02
     Humidity    - Relative Address 05

The scaling for humidity will be the same that is currently used for reading humidity from Weather2. The scaling for temperature will be the same that is currently used for reading Temperature #3 from Weather2.

3. Design

Manager

The Weather1Data structure must be augmented to include two new data members - one for humidity and one for temperature.

The monitor method of the Weather1Mgr class must be augmented to include the reading of humidity and temperature via the SIB/MCB with the appropriate addresses and scaling factors mentioned in the requirements section above.

DDL

The Weather1 Manager DDL must be augmented. Two new fields will be added to the Weather1 sampler: HUMIDITY and TEMPERATURE. Both fields will be of type float. The new fields will have units of none and Celsius respectively.

4. Deployment Checklist

What has to get done to integrate this completely into the system. This checklist must be completed before Cycle Integration Testing begins.

• The CLEO weather screen will need minor mods to allow display of the new readings. Need to coordinate with RonMaddalena.
• Include a description of these changes in the release notes.
• An e-mail will be sent to gbstaff to warn of the changes to Weather1 because there are so many customers to the weather station data that warning staff is important.
• An e-mail will be sent to gbstaff warning everyone that WT2 will be off the air on such-and-such days. The 140-ft control system uses WT2 so we need to give people enough time to get their plans ready for the WT2 outage.

5. Test Plan

• Confirm that samplers from WT1 shows new readings correctly.
