Regression Test of M&C 6.4 : June 25, 2006 (10:30 - 08:30)

These notes describe tests of the M&C 6.4 software on 06/25/06. I found one significant problem that was fixed during the testing period and the fix was confirmed to work. Otherwise I saw no major problems. The weather was too poor for extensive testing with a multibeam receiver. Still, I tested all the usual items: One beam (L-band) and 2-beam (K-band) observations with the DCR, ACS, SP. Total power position switching, freq switching, and cross pol modes were all tested. The astrid Auto* functions were tested. I tested ephemerides, and I tried the new LST/UTC functions in astrid, the horizon function, and the other new time capabilities. I ran gbtidl-test and it ran fine. Mark ran a spigot test, no problems. (Actually I gave up on the spigot tests, we are revamping the directions as we speak. MarkClark)

Items to be addressed by Software IPT

Critical items

• Already fixed by Paul. The sdfits filler was failing on the second scan of OnOffSameHA observations.

Significant items

• cleo status and WX screens should default to an operational WX station. The switch to weather 1 is temporary and we'll be goung back to weather 2 within a few days. RonMaddalena
• Focus scan 69: the subreflector was not scanned symmetrically about the zero point. I took a look at this scan and the peak prior to it. Scan 69 is a nice line in Y, starting at -265mm and ending at +4mm. Scan 68 is on average~ -132mm (approximately the center of scan 69), which I assume is offset due to focus tracking and the -37.2mm LFC that was active during the scan. JoeBrandt
• Several times I got spurious "Accept Fit?" popup messages during AutoPeakFocus observations. These came at times long after scans had completed and other popup messages had been answered, so I think there is a bug somewhere. It is possible that they happen after an Auto* is exited after the "Do you wish to continue?" popup, so a Focus was queued but never executed.

Cosmetic items

• AutoPeakFocus. There are a lot of messages in the Observation Management log that don't mean much without some more description. They should be fully described in the message, or removed if they are debugging lines. e.g.

• Would be nice if the default plot window size in DataDisplay were the appropriate size to show all four panels after a Peak.
• A reminder, the astrid behavior of scrolling to the top of the listbox each time a SB is selected is antisocial. (I'll stop mentioning this one, because nagging is also antisocial.) I agree, we are working on it this week. (No promises). MarkClark
• When observer attempts to move to a source below the horizon, the telescope correctly aborts. It would be nice to print a message to indicate why it was aborted. e.g. "That source is below the horizon."
