Regression Testing 8.3

Overview:

These notes describe tests of the M&C 8.3 software on 5/11/08. The tests ran fine, but at 12:00 noon there were a couple of power failures and the last two hours of the test were lost during recovery of the equipment. Nevertheless, I got almost all of the critical tests finished and found no major problems. I ran specific checks requested by Melinda (PTCS related) and Bob (sdfits related) without problem. Because of poor weather I was not able to get an effective aperture efficiency measurement, to check on the active surface.

Last regression test I reported a failure in slewing the telescope after putting the scan coordinator in standby. Ran the same test this time, and the test ran fine.

One item concerning GFM handling of focus scans (noted below) is worth investigating.

Things I did not test because of the power failure: spectral processor observations, ACS polarization modes, and OTF mapping. These were not expected to be critical tests.

Significant items

Focus heuristics need to be improved. See scan 46. The weather made for a poor focus scan, but the bogus focus value was accepted by GFM anyway. Since we are expecting to be scheduling Q-band this summer, it might be timely to improve these heuristics checks.

Minor items

online sdfits filler did not start automatically. Greg started it by hand and it ran fine thereafter.
The ACS did not balance properly for two of the observations.
I had a problem with a ACS Q-band freq switched observation. I believe the ACS did not configure correctly the first time I ran it. I subsequently ran a total power mode, then came back to the FS mode, and it configured fine the second time.
Astrid/GFM did not display plots of peak scans after recovery from the power failure. Restarted astrid a second time and it then worked.

Grail and turtle failed. Restarted Grail manually, and re-ran restart turtle.
